The Link Between the Food We Eat and Our Mental Health

healthy lifestyle workshop
Workshop title information

The food we eat plays an important role in our health. While most people are aware of the connection between what we eat and how our bellies feel, most don’t realize a link exists between gut health and mental wellbeing. Our gut microbiome is involved in the development of various diseases, including those affecting the brain and mental health.

In this workshop, psychologist Gia Merlo, MD, MBA will review the development of the gut and brain, including the connection between mental and physical health. She’ll focus on factors that affect our gut microbiome – stress, exercise, diet, genetics, medicine, birth mode, pet ownership and environmental stressors. And she’ll discuss the habits that can make a difference in improving both gut and mental health.
