Artisan Homemade Bread

This simple ingredient loaf of bread pairs wonderfully with soups and stews.


2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup white flour enriched
1/4 teaspoon baker's dry active yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 5/8 cup water
1 tablespoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon thyme fresh
1 tablespoon rosemary fresh


In a large bowl mix all ingredients using a wooden spoon. Do not knead! Cover with plastic wrap and let sit overnight, or 8 to 12 hours.

Place a dutch oven in the oven and preheat to 500 degrees. It's important that the dutch oven heat inside oven, otherwise your bread will stick to the bottom.

When oven reaches the temperature, take dutch oven out, shape dough into a ball, then drop into the dutch oven.

Cook for 30 minutes covered. Take off lid and cook uncovered for another 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and let sit about 1/2 hour before using your hand to roughly pull bread from dutch oven.
